Guide to a Minimalist Lifestyle By Hannah As the author put it nicely in the book, “We have become mindless robots driven by consumerism with the insatiable need to acquire more things.” Eliminating excess stuff will bring peace and happiness to our lives. This book does a great job in explaining what is minimalism and how to develop a minimalist mindset. It offers useful tips on how to declutter the wardrobe, kitchen, relationships, digital world… Very well written and highly recommended!

Charles Grant Blairfindie Allen was born on February 24th, 1848 at Alwington, near Kingston, Canada West (now part of Ontario). Home schooled until 13 when his family moved to England, Grant was to become a highly regarded science writer who branched out to a fiction career and became enormously popular. His work helped propel several genres of fiction and whilst his career was short it was enormously productive. Grant’s scientific background enabled him to root much of his work in a plausibility that was denied to others. He had little fear in challenging a society that treated women as second class citizens and creating best sellers from such works. On October 25th 1899 Grant Allen died at his home in Hindhead, Haslemere, Surrey, England. He died just before finishing Hilda Wade. The novel's final episode, which he dictated to his friend, doctor and neighbour Sir Arthur Conan Doyle from his bed appeared under the appropriate title, The Episode of the Dead Man Who Spoke in 1900.

About the Author Charles Grant Blairfindie Allen (February 24, 1848 – October 25, 1899) was a science writer and novelist, and a successful upholder of the theory of evolution.His first books were on scientific subjects, and include Physiological Æsthetics (1877) and Flowers and Their Pedigrees (1886). He was first influenced by associationist psychology as it was expounded by Alexander Bain and Herbert Spencer, the latter often considered the most important individual in the transition from associationist psychology to Darwinian functionalism. In Allen's many articles on flowers and perception in insects, Darwinian arguments replaced the old Spencerian terms. On a personal level, a long friendship that started when Allen met Spencer on his return from Jamaica, also grew uneasy over the years. Allen wrote a critical and revealing biographical article on Spencer that was published after Spencer was died.

Shannon O'Reilly Though I had no idea what I was sending to my kindle, I thought I would take a chance because this book is FREE! I was pleasently surprised by the story- and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It is the tale of a young woman trying to piece together her life and find her father's murderer after suffering from acute memory loss. The reader is drawn in as the character rediscovers her past and the mystery that surrounds her father's death and the nature of his killer. I would highly suggest it - an easy quick read.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Suspense and Surprises By Meks Librarian "Recalled to Life" was first published in 1891, eight years before Allen's death. It is, I think, a rather unusual book for its times. First of all, it is written from a woman's perspective, by a male author - and he has done a rather good job, in my opinion (with the occasional annoying "after all, I am only a woman" coming from the heroine - but maybe in those days women really felt like that and relied more on the men in their lives to solve problems, conduct businesses and so on). Secondly, the heroine is determined to go against what society in general and her relatives in particular expect and advise her to do; she follows her own lead. Thirdly, the language appears much more modern than what you'd think you would find in a book from 1891. Comparing it to This Freedom, which was written in 1922, I would not instantly be able to tell which is younger.Now to the story: At the age of 18, Una Callingham suffers complete amnesia when she witnesses the murder of her father. Like a baby, she has to re-learn how to speak, think, read and write. Four years later, she is in possession of all her mental faculties again, but still can not remember anything from her life before the murder. People she knew back then are strangers to her, and no matter how often the police have spoken to her, trying to trigger her memory into finding anything that could be a clue to the murderer's identity, she is only left very distressed and frustrated every time.Of course, this wouldn't be much of a story if things were not about to change. A new inspector turns up to talk to Una, handing her a bundle of paper clippings about the event, with photographs and all. Until now, her aunt had been so protective of her that she was never allowed to read what the papers wrote about her and the murder of her father. Now that she comes face to face with some of the facts that had been kept from her, she is determined to take things into her own hands and solve the mystery, knowing that she will never be able to lead a happy, self-determined life if she does not get rid of the mystery overshadowing her entire past.By now, Una is 22 and can legally do as she pleases. There is enough money for her to travel and stay comfortably, and she sets out on her quest all optimistic and hopeful. The clues she keeps finding - both in her own memory and by talking to people who knew her and her father before - lead her as far away from England as Canada.It is there that the circumstances of the murder and the true identity of the murderer are revealed. Some of it ranges from the surprising to the improbable, but it is all well written and kept me in suspense until (nearly) the end.If you look for a good old-fashioned mystery (that is actually not so old-fashioned in some respects) and like free ebooks, I can recommend this one from the kindle shop.

About the Author Tom Nagel is an internationally recognized instructor and clinician. He has conducted clinics and trainings, given lectures, and done presentations throughout the United States and in Germany. Tom was the main speaker at the 10th Annual International Centered Riding© Symposium in Brattleboro, Vermont. He was interviewed by Rick Lamb, of the national radio program, The Horse Show and was a keynote speaker at the 2007 Certified Horsemanship Association International Conference in Orlando, Florida. Tom's training background lies outside of horseback riding and his main expertise is in the basic biomechanics of how human bodies work. He has a third degree black belt in Aikido and is an advanced practitioner of Zen Bodytherapy®, a bodywork discipline that combines deep tissue and alignment work. Tom started his Zen training in 1977 and became a certified Zen meditation instructor in 1986. This background gives him a unique perspective in how to help riders use their bodies efficiently first off and then on their horses.

I have a small library of riding books and Tom's is one of only three that I refer to on a weekly basis.This book is very densely packed with information and thus deceptive. In zen, less is more, and it is also in this book. Read a paragraph, go on and then realize that there was a sentence in the last paragraph that resonated with your situation. Better read it again as you will not see it repeated over and over again as you would in a book with four times the words and less than half the content.This is a book to treasure and keep close at hand. It has made me a better rider and changed the way I ride, sit and walk. All for the better.

Nagel's approach encompasses all aspects of my awareness...physical, mental, emotional and energetic. I have never found a book like this one, and I have read a mess of them!!In clear, concise, easy to follow explanations, he has made me aware of just how little it takes to harmonize with my horse. When I got my first transitions, up and down, just by using my breathing...I cried!!!I am a Centered Riding(TM) Instructor and I recommend this book to every one of my students, experienced or beginner. I also host clinics for the author, Tom Nagel. His excellent teaching and inspiring "Zen presence" multiply the book's effectiveness 100 fold!Five stars aren't enough for what this little book has to offer! If you ride a horse, you want to read this book.

I applied my knowledge and riding experiences and tried subtle changes in my posture and various breathing exercises. Readng these books is like sliding down a tunnel or driving really fast on a strange road. The words flow so quickly, I have never had that happen before, very skillfully written.The story involves so many things, on so many levels, travel, love, relationships, emotions, strange experiences, possible descent into madness, or not. Glimpses of a sub-culture that many of us are not familiar with and do not want to be except vicariously in print. They are fascinating reading and I do not want to give anything more about the story. Highly recommend readers find out for themselves.

By Katie Kernan I always wanted to have a garden of Bonsai at home but when I tried it a few years ago, I failed and the tree that I planted had died. I came across this book one day and decided to download it as it was free that time. Upon reading this book, I tried planting a bonsai. I followed every steps mentioned in this book.Complying to every procedures and precautions was made easy by this author which I really liked because I'm not really good in planting. Although, I have already tried planting different kinds of plants before, I still consider myself a beginner when it comes to planting so I really needed a reference that can teach me all the fundamentals of planting to raising a bonsai.Overall, this book has been really helpful. We visited this temple near Kyoto and I was amazed by how beautiful the Bonsais where meticulously decorated in the shrine’s garden.After arriving home, I decided to make a hobby out of planting and decorating Bonsais. I bought some books about Bonsais but this one it probably my favorite. Simple yet full of details…but I just have some problems with book though. It came short with the illustrations…pictures can add a bit of life to the book.

Sasse’s most recent book A Love Story for a Nation is a story of the bravery and perseverance of Gerald Sanpatri. After his wife Rosia dies, Sanpatri picks up his pen to fulfill a promise he made to Rosia to start writing again. He starts writing tales of Jonny, his son who died before he was born. They become extraordinary tales of heroism against the palace. On the one-year anniversary of Rosia and Jonny’s deaths, Gerald finds a note in his lunch bag that Rosia left so long ago. It told him “Remember to just stand there and smile.” Gerald did just that as he started his vigilance on a stone outside the palace gate. In order to avoid spoilers, I have to stop here.I love Sasse’s books and this one stands with the rest. The author weaves history and fiction into a contemporary story with a touch of romance, resulting in a book that leaves you wanting more.The characters are well developed and believable with some mystery around most. The plot evolves with enough energy to keep you turning pages as the characters slowly reveal their secrets.This book was given to me by the author in exchange for an honest review.

It is a struggle to live with such a meager existence until Gerald Sanpatri, an ex-writer meets Rosia, the love of his life. It is Rosia’s devotion and love that enables him to begin writing again. Gerald pours all of his pain and heartache into his tales, writing stories of a brave child who was not afraid to stand up for what he believed in to save the people of his land from the terrible despot that ruled over them.After the last regime change, Gerald Sanpatri stopped writing because the dictator forbade it. Instead, he performed the duties required of him while sinking into oblivion, burying his past behind him. Little by little, as his past begins to resurface, Gerald is thrust to the forefront of a stealthy movement to overthrow the dictator of which he is not even aware.In my mind’s eye, I kept searching for a country to place these horrific events into. Several came to mind and I questioned why the author did not specify a country in the writing of this novel. Finally, I realized that the place was not the main concern. It was the message that events like these occur all over our world today that finally resonated deep within me. It wasn’t the place, it wasn’t the dictator. It was Gerald’s peaceful response that motivated a country to change.Lovers of historical literature and fiction will lose themselves in the events that Mark Sasse has woven around these characters. I finished reading this novel on the Fourth of July while, outside my window, fireworks were exploding celebrating the freedoms of all Americans. The Color of Life--A Must Read Reviewed by Loraine Oliver Copy received from NetGalley By Loraine Oliver The Color of Life is the first book I have read by this author and although it is the second book, it can be read as a stand alone. This book is about a coming of age young woman who has to pull herself up from her childhood, all the way up until the time this book starts- when she's in her early 20's, to finally start living.When she is younger Claire after neglect and lack of anyone caring for her, winds up at the house of a woman named Serafine Mernard, who unknown to Claire until after Sera's death and the death of her business manager, Leonard Stern passes, was her Great Aunt. She never wanted Claire to know until after she passed and so she was not told, even though she loved Claire.This book really is the story about Sera (Serafine) and her business manager Leonard Stern, And what a story it is, a life time that spans over 65 years or so! It is a wonderful book that goes into the life of the people in New Orleans and how they lived and how some of them that could- would pass for white people as it made their lives easier than being creole or colored, and it is sad to read about the need for the secrecy, and how it even affected their relationships with their own children and grandchildren and other family members. I learned a lot reading this book and I am so glad I did.The sad part however is how even though they supposedly did it for good reasons, as in the case of Sara and Leonard they both lied their whole lives and Leonard was in love with Sera, but yet he married and then got a maid pregnant, and after he brought his wife(Rose) home, he brought the maid and her little boy -his son into the house and the wife (Rose) was none the wiser. At the same time he loved Sera, actually she was the only one he ever loved, but after something happened to her when she was maybe 20, she never wanted any man to ever touch her and she led a lonely life alone like that.This book really touched my heart that people had to live like this; it took place at the turn of the 20th century, actually 1899 or so and by the time Claire comes along it is already in the later part of the 20th century. In the case of Sera, her Aunt was passing for white and she was a business woman, and then Sera followed in her footsteps and also became a business owner. Leonard was a white Jewish man that passed as a catholic, and his brother Daniel Stern was the one that was married to Sera's Aunt and she was passing as white also. So we see from this story how the lie passes from one generation to another and then another!When Leonard Stern passed away, his solicitor was the one who got in touch with Claire and mailed her Aunt Sera's memoirs to her that she had written and luckily Leonard had given it to his solicitor for safekeeping, or Claire would have never known any of it.This book was so well written and I felt so bad reading parts of it how people did not really live free with a secret hanging over their head their whole lives. There were a lot of shocking moments in this book and a lot of twists and turns in the plot and just when you think you can see where this is going, it takes a big turn and I was thrown off, like even at the end of the book when Claire is told something no one knew! The characters were all complex and well developed and even the minor characters played a big part in this book.I think this book is very important, because even though it is written as a fiction story, I think most of this has happened to many people, and it really is a part of American History.It was also awesome to realize that Claire was the one that no matter what was able to follow her dream and get out of there for good, with no ties holding her back! I have read all of Marie Bostwick's novels, even the ones that are no longer in print. I love her books. I have all of them. Her books are guaranteed to keep you in your comfy armchair and read till the last page has been turned. Her writing keeps getting better and better every time she churns out another book.This one is not one of her Cobbled Court books, which is to my surprise. I depend on the Cobbled Court series to get me through another busy season of raising two ornery kids, but this book is even better. It is about Lucy coming home to Nilson's Bay, WI, since her older sister, Alice, died unexpectedly. As part of Alice's will, Lucy has to live in the cottage that she has spent her entire adult life running away from for eight weeks before she can sell it and go back to Washington, D.C. where her boss just became the elected president of the US.Lucy reluctantly stays in Nilson's Bay for the required eight weeks to finish out her requirements before heading to the White House to resume the frantic pace of her harried life as an campaign manager. She meets up with the FOA girls, who happened to be Friends of Alice as the town dubbed them and with their help, she learns how to quilt. And along the way, she learns more about her sister, who left a gaping hole in folks' lives than Lucy has ever realized. She realized that she doesn't have the sole right to miss her sister as Alice has befriended everyone in Nilson's Bay, even her own lawyer, Peter, who also happened to be Lucy's high school crush.This is a lovely novel about a woman who was forced to take several steps back to step away from a busy and storied career to realize that life is more than just winning campaigns. It is also a great story of how a woman finds the small joys in life are actually the big things as well.I rely on Marie Bostwick to produce these gems of a novel and if I have to be really honest, this one is my favorite yet.

Branfield A truly unforgettable journey of grace and healing, The Second Sister by Marie Bostwick is a very emotional novel of family, forgiveness and friendship. It is also a heartfelt and engaging story about making peace with the past and letting go of mistakes in order to move on and embrace the future.Lucy Toomey has spent her entire adult life avoiding her small hometown in Wisconsin. Despite her older sister Alice’s numerous pleas to visit, she has not returned home in the eight years since her parents’ deaths. When she learns that Alice been hospitalized and is in serious condition, she drops everything to rush to her sister’s side, but unfortunately Alice passes away while Lucy is still en route. Planning to leave as soon she settles her sister’s estate, Lucy is stunned to discover that the terms of Alice’s will stipulate she live in the family home for eight weeks in order to inherit or the house will go to a local animal rescue. She reluctantly remains in town where she eventually discovers startling truths about herself, her sister and their somewhat complicated relationship. Lucy also unexpectedly finds friendship and, quite possibly, love but will this be enough to change her mind about leaving the small close-knit community for good?Lucy lives life at a frantic pace and she allows herself very little time to think about anything other than her demanding career. Her childhood was spent in the shadow of her older, more accomplished and outgoing sister and she could never live up to her father’s expectations. In the aftermath of the tragic accident that left Alice mentally impaired, Lucy was overcome with guilt at the events of the day and she could not wait to leave her unhappy memories behind. Besides being an interesting story, it was certainly very thoughtful, caring and humorous as well. It also is a book that will help so many women; both those that have worries about their own lives, and also those that are wondering if they can do anything about their lives. Follow Sally and take charge of your life.It is so easy to picture Sally's beautiful house, as she relates step by step how it was built, the fun parts, the not so fun parts, and the length of time it took to build. Then the happiness of moving in gives one such a good feeling. Quite amazing.Thank you for writing this book, Sally, and also for doing so in the way that will help others. Now enjoy your new life and home.

By Kim Walnes This book is an amazing testimony to the courage, fortitude, determination, and pure grit of woman power. The story of Sally's dream and how she and her partner, Melanie, made it all happen is a journey of amazement spiced with laughter. Throughout the often brutally hard work, followed by the punishing cold they endured, are woven the threads of Sal's emotional growth and her lifelong love for Nature and all her denizens.Reading the book, it becomes clear that each of us has the potential to reach out and work toward that which might have seemed out of reach. Day to day as I read it I found myself thinking about Sal's experiences and absorbing inspiration from them. I highly recommend it!

Not really complicated and with practice I’m getting more experienced and creative.
