This novel centers on George Lepage who has recently been appointed as the Director of the Hulliborn Museum, succeeding the highly respected Sir Eric Butler-Minton. George has designs on a knighthood for himself, but problems arise. Four famous paintings are stolen and a former employee, Neville Falldew, is bent on causing trouble. In addition a Japanese team is negotiating with Lepage to bring an exhibit to the museum. Various museum employees get in on the action as Lepage struggles to make sense of the situation. The figure of the late Sir Eric hovers over the action. The story meanders through various comical situations to its end.People who are fond of British humor will enjoy the zany antics that occur in this novel. As an American I found it to be mostly silly.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. bizarre little art crime novel By Stephen Wahrhaftig Bill Jams occasionally offers glimpse of the type of twisted humor that has made the Harpur and Illes mysteries so great. While this is a lesser effort, I found it funny and interesting. Good for Bill a James fans as we hope for more appearances of his great detective characters.
