The characters, villagers in the rural settings, came alive through their patois, and descriptions of the Welsh landscape evoked a mood for each particular narrative. The variety of storylines and style of writing kept my attention from one tale to the next.The cover design is an exercise in consciousness expansion. The juxtaposition of the parallel lines and text creates a visual scenario all of its' own. It, combined with the moleskin-like smoothness of its' texture, was hard to put down, and easily picked up again to continue reading.

About the Author Norma E Cantú was born in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico and grew up in Laredo, Texas. Her novel Canícula: Snapshots of a Girlhood en la Frontera received the Aztlán Prize in 1996. A beautiful book with some substantial historical essays as well By Amazon Customer Transcendental Train Yard is a delightful collection of poems and art that celebrates the culture and history of trains in a way seldom done. The color serigraphs are side by side with bilingual poems, in Spanish and English. But not only were the poems inspired by the artwork, the art also incoporates the poetry, thus making the book an unusual reflexive form of ekphrastic creativity. A beautiful book with some substantial historical essays as well. Not your average poetry book!

This short picture book will not only make you laugh, there's also a lot of dog wisdom in it that will give humans plenty to think about. Who knew? I certainly didn't. But as soon as I found out, I purchased her first book and read it in one sitting. Anna has a drool...um, droll sense of humor.For instance, in one pooch's letter to her he says he's concerned that everyone thinks he's a tough guy because of his looks when in reality he's quite sensitive. Anna takes one look at his photo which shows him in a cutesy vest and says, "No one will think you're a tough guy if you just keep wearing that tube top, halter top, whatever the freakin' thing is." There's plenty more where that came from, with great photos of all kinds of dogs in various poses. In letter format with 'letters' from seekers of advice and Anna in candid shots in front of a laptop, with or without her reading glasses. Honestly, if you're not laughing out loud in a matter of minutes, then you don't like dogs. Plus, 100% of Anna's earnings go to Canine Companions for Independence.

Este libro recoge, por un lado, la recapitulación de lo que el aprendiz Castaneda vivió al lado de su maestro Don Juan en su primera etapa de aprendizaje (1961 1965) y, por otro, la reanudación de su aprendizaje, a partir de abril de 1968, dos años y medio después de haberlo abandonado "definitivamente". Castaneda relata que cuando recibe el primer ejemplar de su libro Las enseñanzas de Don Juan siente un gran deseo de mostrárselo a Don Juan. Hecho que lo pone de nueva cuenta en el camino del conocimiento de la Toltequidad, en un segundo ciclo de aprendizaje que según las propias palabras de Castaneda fue "muy distinto del primero". Castaneda no quiere reanudar el aprendizaje, o por lo menos no tiene un deseo consciente de hacerlo. Mucho menos desea repetir sus temibles experiencias con las plantas de poder. Sin embargo, de manera “misteriosa" siente la necesidad de reanudar el aprendizaje. El empeño principal de Don Juan en esta etapa se concentra en enseñar a "ver" a Castaneda. La diferencia entre "mirar" y "ver" consiste básicamente en que "mirar" es poder confirmar a través de nuestra vista que el mundo es tal como nuestra razón nos dice que es, y "ver", es la capacidad del hombre de conocimiento para percibir el mundo a través de cargas de energía. Don Juan insiste a Castaneda que debe reiniciar sus encuentros con “el humito", porque de esa manera tendrá "la velocidad requerida para vislumbrar el mundo fugaz". Don Juan le dice que la única manera en que un hombre de conocimiento puede saber es "viendo" más allá de la superficie de las cosas. El "humito", dice Don Juan, le ayudará a "ver" cómo los hombres en realidad son un conglomerado de fibras de luz que circulan desde la cabeza hasta el ombligo, las cuales hacen aparecer a cualquier hombre (rey o limosnero) como un huevo luminoso. Las fibras luminosas unen al hombre con lo que le rodea, dándole equilibrio y estabilidad. El simple hecho de pensar en volver a vivir las experiencias anteriores con el "humito" aterra a Castaneda y trata de evitarlo a toda costa.

By A Customer In this, his second book in the series, Casteneda abandons the over-structured format and polished academic writing that demystified the magic of his first volume and takes the reader on an engaging, strange, and helarious journey through non-ordinary reality. I loved how the author's lucid wrritng style balanced the often unintelligible situations depicted. Anyone with a nose for the paranormal and an open mind will devour this book within a week. Fact or fiction, Casteneda paints a most fascinating and challenging picture for his readers.

There were coffee-houses frequented by merchants and stock-jobbers carrying on the game which suggested the new nickname bulls and bears: and coffee-houses where the talk was Whig and Tory, of the last election and change of ministry: and literary resorts such as the Grecian, where, as we are told, a fatal duel was provoked by a dispute over a Greek accent, in which, let us hope, it was the worst scholar who was killed; and Wills', where Pope as a boy went to look reverently at Dryden; and Buttons', where, at a later period, Addison met his little senate. Addison, according to Pope, spent five or six hours a day lounging at Buttons'; while Pope found the practice and the consequent consumption of wine too much for his health.This useful survey was in print as a textbook or study guide into the 1960s. The lecture style is informal, if not breezy. I can do no better than quote a few remarkable passages:"... I may perhaps note, in passing, that we do not always remember what classical literature meant to that generation. In the first place, the education of a gentleman meant nothing then except a certain drill in Greek and Latin—whereas now it includes a little dabbling in other branches of knowledge. In the next place, if a man had an appetite for literature, what else was he to read? Imagine every novel, poem, and essay written during the last two centuries to be obliterated and further, the literature of the early seventeenth century and all that went before to be regarded as pedantic and obsolete, the field of study would be so limited that a man would be forced in spite of himself to read his Homer and Virgil... ""... The nobleman has ceased to consider the patronage of authors as any part of his duty, and the tradition which made him consider writing poetry as a proper accomplishment is dying out. Since that time our aristocracy as such has been normally illiterate. Peers—Byron, for example—have occasionally written books; and more than one person of quality has, like Fox, kept up the interest in classical literature which he acquired at a public school, and added a charm to his parliamentary oratory. [...]But a certain contempt for the professional writer is becoming characteristic, even of men like Horace Walpole, who have a real taste for literature. He is inclined to say, as Chesterfield put it in a famous speech, 'We, my lords, may thank Heaven that we have something better than our brains to depend upon.' ..."Worth reading, even today.

By EssBee This is an interesting analysis of 18th century English literature, and the mutual influence between the authors of that period and the society in which they lived. However, it is a rather short text, consisting of just a couple of lectures from the 19th or early 20th century, meaning that it comes off more as an introduction to a non-existent larger work rather than a complete survey of the topic in its own right.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. good writer By janis d martens i enjoyed this book. he really explained the symbolism of many parts of masonry. he goes back into history and looks at similar incidents besides the masonic ones. it is very thorough. and Mackey is easy to understand, not like trying to read Pike. i would highly recommend this book.

Masonis A very good, comprehensive review of all the major symbols in the Craft, elegantly written (probably because it's Victorian-Era). Also includes extensive notes and a helpful alphabetical glossary of expanded reflections on the book's major themes. I've been using it as my source for a "Masonic Word of the Month" on my Trestleboard the whole of my year in the East.

This should be required reading for all young adults. The young woman's struggles with both her addiction and her boyfriend are real and visceral.The only caveat I have is that the scenes with the lead character's family are, while tightly written, not as well detailed. I couldn't picture any of the family members -- I could see what they did, but not what they looked like. The scene with the father's turn-around just was too easy, especially, as Ms. Moss wrote, the father thought highly of his father.

By Robin Lee This is author, Rianne Moss's debut novel and was a very emotional read........It's a journey through a hard core, drug addicts life......(.There were absolutely no typos in my kindle version).....It depicts how emotional scars from child molestation can carry on for the rest of your life until you get help.......Great characterization of all the players that you actually felt their fear, anger and pain....Excellent depiction of strung up, long term Heroin addicts just looking to get their next hit......What they will go through at any means to get it......Stealing , lying, prostitution.....Literal body destruction with harden, scarred track marks on arms, legs, between toes and possible infections.....Touches on drug withdrawal, parental issues and trying to get clean on programs out there.....The ending was a little climatic, yet satisfying, leading into the next part of the series......Or it can just be stand alone......Natalie has been sexually molested since she has been a little girl by her Grandfather.......Keeping that dark, hidden secret all bottled up inside her.......The only relief she gets from the memories and pain is shooting up Heroin, Cocaine and any pills she can get her hands on.......Thrown out of her home by her sickened Father.......She has no choice but to move in with her drug addict, childhood boyfriend, Scott's basement.....Scott's Mother enables them and gives anything they need.......Throughout Natalie's journey there will be two unexpected turn of events......One an almost tragedy and the other a possible miracle that may just turn her life around......But there will be big hurdles and mountains to climb......She may just end up falling off........An excellent story of contemporary fiction and a page turner.....From Kindle unlimited.....

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. A Story of Hope and Redemption. By Roxie Prince I was contacted by the author of this book and asked to read and give an honest review. I am always happy to help out fellow independent authors. This was a solid 3.5 stars for me.At the start of this book, I was a bit overwhelmed. I felt like the action was a little rushed, that there wasn't enough reason behind why the characters were acting so dramatically. Things sort of felt like they were happening too quickly, if that makes sense? But as the story progressed, it began to come together. Once I got into this book, I really enjoyed it. Sometimes the dialog felt a little stilted to me, and the grandfather's actions are, at times, a bit outrageous (I think there could be a bit more about who he is as a person to better explain why he flips on a coin, and why he singles Natalie out so badly, but perhaps that's going to be explained in the sequels?), but overall, I thought this was a fun and easy read.I devoured the whole thing in a single sitting. I especially loved the diary entries interspersed throughout the book as it gave insight into Natalie's mind as she was growing up. This is a story of hope and redemption about how someone can pull themselves up from the true horrors of this world and make their lives better. It's about how, if you choose not to be a victim, you can overcome, and I think that's a powerful message. I look forward to reading more from Rianne Moss in the future. :)
