Having rescued her from a horrific life, her parents spring into all-out desperation mode to find her the best lifesaving medical care. Despite the advice of veterinary professionals to euthanize, her parents are determined to save her at all costs. I cried profusely when reading Dog-ma especially when Cooper died :-(Loving Emmi was just as touching and although I knew the story of Emmi as I followed her story from the beginning when she was rescued by Rottie Nation Rottweiler Rescue as Baby Morgan, the broken jaw puppy, the book did not disappoint. The enormous will to survive demonstrated by a tiny and abused Rottweiler was inspiring. Her incredible journey of survival astonished all those who met the determined pup. Emmi would not have survived were it not for her incredible parents, Barbara & Ray...These two individuals are the reason Emmi is alive, healthy and thriving today when others said she would certainly perish. It is a MUST read for any dog lover, especially Rottweiler lovers. Emmi embodies everything Rottie except the chewing. I had the honor of meeting Emmi and I even swam with her...She is like a seal in the water... Such a sweet, sweet gentle loving soul. A story of true love and survival against all odds

Hold on to your heart By Katie O'Brian-Robles Having had the honor of helping edit this incredible story of heart and hope I think I must have been the first to read it. I'm not a cryer.. I'm as stoic as the Rottweilers portrayed in this lovely and loving tale however I had to put the manuscript down and take deep cleansing breaths as I've never known such love, compassion and dedication to a living being as Ray and Barbara Boswell Brunner show this brave, trusting and loyal dog. Beautifully written without sacrifice to drama, you will find yourself caught up in a world of powerful emotion. For those of you who loved Ms. Brunner's premier novel: Dogma: the Zen of Slobber, you will delight in revisiting those cherished 'children' who came before Emmi and of course the 'Terrier-ist' Izzy. You will be brought into the operating theater, witness the surgeries Emmi endured, sit in the waiting room and pray along with her parents as you wait for the outcome. A true and powerful novel sure to touch your hearts forever.

I read both this week back to back and it is an amazing story well wrote by an amazing woman By Amazon Customer I am a fan of Emmi's on Facebook and had not read either of Barbara's books. I read both this week back to back and it is an amazing story well wrote by an amazing woman. You will not be disappointed in the book, this would make a great gift to someone and they don't even have to be a dog lover but I can't imagine someone who would not be in love with Emmi by the end of the book.

There came an episode in the life of Cecilia Holt which it is essential should first be told. When she was twenty-two years old she was living with her mother at Exeter. Mrs. Holt was a widow with comfortable means,—ample that is for herself and her daughter to supply them with all required by provincial comfort and provincial fashion. They had a house without the city, with a garden and a gardener and two boys, and they kept a brougham, which was the joint care of the gardener and the boy inside and the boy outside. They saw their friends and were seen by them.

Kept in the Dark, by Anthony Trollope

About the Author Anthony Trollope was a Victorian-era English author best known for his satirical novel The Way We Live Now, a criticism of the greed and immorality he witnessed living in London. Trollope was employed as a postal surveyor in Ireland when he began to take up writing as a serious pursuit, publishing four novels on Irish subjects during his years there. In 1851 Trollope was travelling the English countryside for work when was inspired with the plot for The Warden, the first of six novels in what would become his famous The Chronicles of Barsetshire series. Trollope eventually settled in London and over the next thirty years published a prodigious body of work, including Barsetshire novels such as Barchester Towers and Doctor Thorne, as well as numerous other novels and short stories. Trollope died in London 1882 at the age of 67.

29 of 32 people found the following review helpful. an affirmation of marriage By A Customer An editorial review mentioned that this is a story about the near-destruction of a marriage. I see it, rather, as the affirmation of true marriage. Both the hero and heroine--having been misled about the character of previous betrothal connections must overcome feelings of distrust and personal pride to come to a true understanding . . . Trollope uses this novel to show that honesty and integrity are not just virtues; they are essentials. In a time when so many best-sellers end in divorce, Trollope's characters come to the end of this short novel stronger and more true--and still married. And those who are untrue are exposed along the way.

16 of 19 people found the following review helpful. Secrets and the strength of love By Bomojaz One of Trollope's later and shorter novels, this tells the story of a woman who keeps secret from her husband a previous engagement to another man; when he finally finds out about it he leaves her. What happens is this: Cecilia Holt decides to break off her engagement to the neglectful Sir Francis Geraldine. Later she meets and falls in love with George Western, who has also been jilted; he tells her about his past, but she doesn't reveal hers to him, and then they marry. But Sir Francis writes to Western and spills the beans; appalled by Cecilia's silence and soon suspicious of her motives, leaves her. By the end all is made right by Western's sister Lady Grant. The central episode that drives the novel seems like a mountain made out of a molehill today, but Cecilia Holt is an excellently drawn character - strong and determined (maybe too much so). She refuses Western's money after he leaves her and expects him to apologize to her when he returns. Trollope's realism is in full control when at the end Cecilia has romantic notions regarding Western's return, but Trollope will have none of it; Western's stoicism is something Cecilia is just going to have to accept. Some of the secondary scenes, especially those involving Sir Francis and Miss Altifiorla, are quite humorous. This novel doesn't rank with Trollope's very best work, but it's still entertaining and interesting in its own way.

St. Urbain's Horseman is a complex, moving, and wonderfully comic evocation of a generation consumed with guilt - guilt at not joining every battle, at not healing every wound. Thirty-seven-year-old Jake Hersh is a film director of modest success, a faithful husband, and a man in disgrace. His alter ego is his cousin Joey, a legend in their childhood neighbourhood in Montreal. Nazi-hunter, adventurer, and hero of the Spanish Civil War, Joey is the avenging horseman of Jake's impotent dreams. When Jake becomes embroiled in a scandalous trial in London, England, he puts his own unadventurous life on trial as well, finding it desperately wanting as he steadfastly longs for the Horseman's glorious return.

Irreverent, deeply felt, as scathing in its critique of social mores as it is uproariously funny, St. Urbain's Horseman confirms Mordecai Richler's reputation as a pre-eminent observer of the hypocrisies and absurdities of modern life.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. The Intensity Builds as We Read By J.E.Robinson As a point of reference, I have read all of Richler's major works and a few of his early novellas. This was written after Richler's sexual obsession in his British phase and he tells an interesting story about a young film director from Montreal who has moved to Britain The novel follows from his wildly creative novel Cocksure which as story immersed in sexual obsession. This is a far tamer novel and it is longer and more substantial but less creative. Overall, it is among his best efforts.Following on from the very liberated Cocksure, we see a much more conventional and down to earth Richler who has attempted to integrate British making with biographical elements from his own youth.Modecai Richler (1931 to 2001) grew up in Montreal and that city is the setting for many of his stories - but not all. Many of his novels are about Jews living in Canada and Britain post WWII.He is best known for his tales of life in and around St. Urbain Street. That is an area of three story buildings or walk up row houses located just east of the mountain in Montreal, and north of the commercial center of the city. At one time this was the center of Jewish immigrant life. Many Jews coming to Montreal started there but then moved on to Outrement, Hamstead, and other districts. His father was a scrap dealer and he graduated from a heavily Jewish high school, Baron Byng High School, which has other famous alumni including William Shatner of Star Trek fame. Some of the local establishments such as Schwartz's Deli on St. Laurent are still in business. He uses much of those biographical experiences in the book. His break out novel is the present novel Duddy Kravitz which is still a great read whether you have seen the movie or not. Also, I like his last book, Barney's Vision, which is probably his most balanced and best written piece of work. That novel lacks the edge and drama of Duddy Kravitz. Along the way, he experimented with different themes and the use of sex in the plots, and usually he did that with a lot of humor as in Cocksure. This book is among his best works and there must be a few parallels with Richter's own life. It is about a young and poorly educated Jewish boy (Richler never finished university himself and moved to Britain) who struggles in the Canadian TV business starting off as a stage hand and then eventually becoming a London based movie director. The protagonist, Jacob Hersh, is from the St. Urbain area of Montreal, and he has an unusual relation with his cousin Joey - who is the "horseman." Joey appears only once in the book when he visits Montreal, and spends most of his time traveling the world doing all sort of glamorous things from being a soldier, to actor, to baseball player. In reality, Joey is a bit of a con man but he is held in awe by Jacob. This is an interesting story that gets better as we reach the end of the book. Many of his critics claim that he re-cycles his characters and deals only with one topic, but in general his books are far from the predictable and this book is another example. That being said, Duddy Kravitz and even his father max appear in the novel, and Duddy more than once. This is a good read which leaves the reader satisfied.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Another Mordicai Richler Gem By A Customer The underappreciated novelist Modicai Richler was every bit the master of Jewish comedic fiction as Phillip Roth. When it came to describing the emerging Canadian middle class in the 1950 and 60s Richler got it just right and left one roaring with laughter to boot.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. standard Mordecai Richler material = fascinating read By lazza Mordecai Richler's novels are always a wild ride. In St. Urbain's Horseman we have the usual Richler pastiche of paranoid Jewish Montrealers struggling in a gentile world. As with his other novels, I sense that '..Horseman' has many biographical elements to it. Although teetering on being pretentious, '..Horseman' is easily salvaged by its fine characterizations and often hilarious prose.'..Horseman' is a very rich, complex novel. It chronicles a young man who escapes squalor of Montreal and finds himself as a successful family man in swinging London, circa 1965. Unfortunately he finds himself tormented by the legend of his mysterious cousin (the "horseman") who seems to be larger than life (..a Nazi hunter in Paraguay?), and those with whom the cousin comes in contact with. It's all rather chaotic and often unbelievable. But thankfully the likes of Mordecai Richler pulls it all together somehow.Bottom line: suspend your disbelief and enjoy this book.

But after a tense reunion, their carriage runs into a mob gathered to witness the mass murderer Mary Ann Cotton being brought into Durham Jail. Buried memories of Clara's second tragic miscarriage begin to resurface, and her inability to recall events of the months leading up to her subsequent committal to a private asylum, cause her to question her husband's motives for placing her there. When Clara befriends Catherine, an outspoken Suffragist, she joins her as a prison visitor, working with female inmates. The childless Clara encounters Mrs. Cotton and becomes increasingly fascinated with her story and when she learns the murderer is pregnant the obsession grows. As she uncovers more details about the murders, she’s tormented by the idea that a mother could poison her own children. A disturbing encounter finally unlocks the truth behind the terrible events surrounding her miscarriage, but when her husband falls under the controlling influence of a devious colleague, Clara is soon fighting for her sanity, her freedom and her grandmother's inheritance. Meanwhile public outrage grows about Mrs. Cotton, a woman who would go against her God-given instincts and murder her own children and several husbands by poisoning, a 'woman's choice' of weapon. Newspaper articles about "the monster" incite fresh debate about the natural place of women in the latter decades of the 19th century while Clara struggles to save her fortune, her freedom and her life.

It is set in Durham City. It is narrated by Clara who has just recovered from a nervous breakdown and the loss of a baby through a miscarriage. Her husband has got a job as a lecturer at Durham University. She is a very nervous person and we can see as we read more of the book that her husband Henry is playing on her lack of confidence. She goes to help out at the prison and is fascinated by the prisoner Mary Ann Cotton who is accused of murdering various husbands and children. Ms Cotton is pregnant and is awaiting trial. Clara can't understand why anyone would want to murder a child and wants to know all about her.An excellent read and very well written. I would recommend it and give it 5 stars.

We tend to think that the 1800's England was a gentle refined era and forget the desperation of poverty and cruelty that was abundant. We also seem to think that being in the upper classes was a serene happy life. Ah, this story will set you straight.Enjoy this read.

She develops the characters very well and the story could take a few different directions right til the ending! Very compelling! You can tell in Marjorie's descriptions of the architecture and countryside that she has really done her homework and what it would have been like to be a very "suppressed wife" at the turn of the last century! Well done!

"We are all more interested in ourselves than in any one else in this world, until love comes; then we soon learn to love a man more than life, and when a child comes we learn another love, so clear, so high, so purifying, that we become of no moment at all, and live only for those we love." ― Gene Stratton-Porter, A Daughter of the Land

A Daughter of the Land (Xist Classics), by Gene Stratton-Porter

From the Back Cover Kate Bates is another Gene Stratton-Porter unsung hero in the tradition of Elnora Comstock, of A Girl of the Limberlost, and Freckles and Laddie, of books of the same name. As the youngest child, and female, in a large prosperous farm family, she has been designated as her mother's helper in old age. Kate finds this unfair since all of the brothers have been given land and the older sisters sent to teacher training. With the help of a nephew and sister-in-law, she defies her parents, becomes a teacher, leaves home. Her real ambition, however, is to own and cultivate a large farm. After rejecting the easy path to her dream, she suffers through a bad marriage but ultimately acquires her land and achieves happiness.

About the Author Gene Stratton-Porter (1863-1924), American novelist and naturalist, was born on a farm in Indiana and became one of Indiana's best-known authors. Writing fiction to support her passion for observing natural habitats, she also wrote non-fiction works that extensively dealt with birds, flowers, and other natural wonders. She fought for the conservation of the Limberlost Swamp and took up other cases of public welfare as well. A Girl of the Limberlost (1909) and Freckles (1904) are two of her most famous works.

33 of 33 people found the following review helpful. Story of Ambition and Preserverence By Amazon Customer The Gene Stratton Porter books were written in the early 1900's. The three that I've read (Daughter of the Land, A Girl of the Limberlost, and Laddie) all feature poor Indiana farm families with a young daughter struggling to grow up and understand the world around her. 'A Daughter of the Land' is the saddest book of all, but it is my favorite without question. This book was passed on to me by my grandmother who related strongly to the main character, Kate. Kate, like my grandmother, persevered among a family who mistreated her and had little money or time to afford her for her future. Kate shows kindness and understanding and makes her own future for herself with her intelligence and hard work. Her love of nature brings her small happinesses. I struggle to understand how a young girl today could relate to the old-fashioned tone to the book. I would recommend this to any young woman ~age 14 if not this fact. A mature young reader will find much inspiration in the text. The resonating message is that a young woman must be strong and sometimes look to herself for survival.

35 of 36 people found the following review helpful. Maturity By Good Yarns "A Daughter of the Land" is a book I read because my mother, down from my grandmother, passed this book on to me. I received it way back in my teenage years and I read it then. I found it harsh and depressing...the story of the 12th child, a daughter, who was expected to slave at home for her family while the other children received many comforts and wealth from their austere, but abundant farming family. Yuk.I picked it up again when I was about thirty and re-read it, thinking maybe I had misjudged it. No, it was Yuk.At a conference in 2006 the author of this book (Gene Stratton-Porter) was highly recommended for other works, which I then read... and ...LOVED. Her books now inspire my high recommendations and comments. Soo...I gave "A Daughter of the Land" another chance. It was humbling to realize that the book wasn't at fault before, it was me who hadn't yet grown up enough. Suffering was indeed still a theme, but so was hope and humbleness and loving in spite of disappointment. It was about forethought and wisdom and about the consequences of following foolishness, but it was not preachy. "Daughter" is not like her other works. It has a humanity which is more pronounced, and yet the nobility seems the richer for it.

13 of 14 people found the following review helpful. A different feel from her other work By Heather A. Brown This story is definitely edgier than a lot of Gene Stratton-Porter's other work. I hated it the first time I read it, but I went back and read it again as a grown up and was surprised. The story seems to have more depth, and if anything, the mistakes and problems of all of the characters are more realistic than many of the stories she wrote. You believe people would act this way...even though it is a bit of a soap opera. Things work out, but not without the heroine really growing from experience.

“Suzan Still’s FIESTA OF SMOKE is an extraordinary book, encompassing a vast time frame yet bringing the possibility of a contemporary Mexican revolution to vivid life through its beautifully tuned, disparate voices. With a tonality that at times echoes the quiet grace of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s LOVE IN THE TIME OF CHOLERA, matched by passages that have the psychotic edginess of BREAKING BAD, Fiesta of Smoke is a book that will both compel and seduce you to read it to its haunting conclusion.” – Alexander Stuart, author of THE WAR ZONE and LIFE ON MARS “As with the brush of a muralist, Suzan Still has captured 50 years of the history of Mexico in vivid color. This passionate, non-linear novel explores the lives of three very different people involved in decades of political upheaval, and sounds the depth of injustices done for centuries there. Gripping in its detail, and daring in its reach, Fiesta of Smoke is a moving portrayal of the disparate cultures and complexity of a turbulent, beautiful country.” – M. E. Hirsh, author of KABUL and DREAMING BACK Against a backdrop of rebellion and intrigue, love between Javier Carteña, commander of insurgent Mexican forces, and Calypso Searcy, an American novelist at the pinnacle of her career, sizzles with passion across a broad sweep of history. Encompassing time from the Conquest of the 1500s to the present, the story races across space as well, from the forests of Chiapas to the city of Paris. There, an international investigative reporter named Hill picks up the swiftly vanishing trail of Calypso’s disappearance, and unwittingly becomes involved in one of the great dramas of the twentieth century and one of the great love stories of any age.

The smoky wings of these transfigured beings are gallantly abroad in the pages of this book. Feminine energy especially is emerging as a force to be reckoned with in every aspect of global life. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A Powerful Must-Read!! By Louise Jolly Story Description:Fiction Studio Books|March 5, 2013|Trade Paperback|ISBN: 978-193655855-1Against a backdrop of rebellion and intrigue, love between Javier Cartena, commander of insurgent Mexican forces, and Calypso Searcy, an American novelist at the pinnacle of her career, sizzles with passion across a broad sweep of history. Encompassing time from the Conquest of the 1550s to the present, the story races across space as well, from the forests of Chiapas to the city of Paris. There, an international investigative reporter named Hill picks up the swiftly vanishing trail of Calypso's disappearance, and unwittingly becomes involved in one of the great dramas of the twentieth century and one of the great love stories of any age.My Review:Fiesta of Smoke reads like a history book with a deeply passionate love story interwoven throughout the story. From Paris to California to Mexico with great learning potential, the book powerfully unravels how tradition, culture, and sense of place affect the human heart. It brings to life the power of the story and at the same time challenges us to discover all there is to know about Mexico and the Conquest of the 1500s to the present.Steeped in the history of Mexico, you will come to realize that to fully understand this story is a profound discovery and it's the very exact opportunity offered to us, the readers.Aside from the Mexican history and its gleaming landscape, is the most beautiful and most powerful love story between the two main protagonists: Calypso Searcy and Javier Cartena. Calypso is an American author at the height of her career who writes under the pen name, David Rockland. Javier is commander of insurgent Mexican forces. Their love is one that women the world over wish they had and strive to find.Fiesta of Smoke was a beautiful piece of narrative that looks into the mysteries of days gone-by and the joys of the human heart. Ms. Still has penned a rare must-read treat! I will definitely be keeping this as part of my permanent collection as it is the type of book that I want to experience again and again and again. Well-done!!

Barbara Kingsolver is tops on my list of favorite writers and Suzan Still, with Fiesta of Smoke, has matched if not surpassed her. With both writers the reader has to read every word or something important will be missed. The reader cannot skip or zone out while reading. Not a sentence is unimportant. There are so many levels to this story and each character has so much depth. I got so attached to the main ones! The novel has everything: love, history, social commentary, mystery and adventure. I cannot do it justice in my review. You'll just have to read it and see for yourself. This is a beautifully written book, passionate, poetic, insightful and meaningful.I could not put Fiesta of Smoke down, and was completely satisfied when finished. Now, I can't wait to read Still's other novel, Commune of Women, and eagerly await the promised sequel to Fiesta of Smoke.

8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. FIESTA OF SMOKE IS A MUST READ By Shelley Muniz Suzan Still's command of language, description, and her memorable cast of characters place Fiesta of Smoke among my favorite reads. From the first page we are plunged into the story with urgency, traveling to Paris, Berkeley, CA, and then into the heart of Mexico with Calypso, Javier, and Hill - each of them committed to cause, to life, and to each other. In Fiesta of Smoke, we are led on a moral and ethical journey, pushed to the heart of reason, and at times, left clinging to hope. As a reader, I didn't want this story to end. Still's characters became my companions in an adventure worthy of note.

Whispers from the East, by Amie Ali

Review "Fans of family saga-style novels will find a richer, deeper and more harrowing story than ever before when they read Whispers From The East. Amie Ali presents a stark and authentic look at an under-represented culture, delivering the sights, sounds and senses of the East with a relatable style of storytelling. The characters are fully fleshed out and their complex relationships and belief systems become second nature to the reader as the story goes on. The plot of seeking peace and understanding between two vastly different cultures is dealt with compassionately, despite its vivid and moving tribulations, and Ammi in particular is a character that every reader will feel deeply for." ~K.C. Finn, Readers' Favorite"This novel is really in a league of its own." ~Bailey Ember, Texas Book Nook

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Exquisitely Written Story By Phi Sigma I really enjoyed reading this book. This is an exquisitely written story about the challenges that are faced in inter-cultural and inter-religious marriages. A loving mother, Ammi, must come to terms with her sons living in America and then marrying foreign brides. This story touches on religious conversion, apostasy, and the clashing of cultural beliefs. This story is very intense and makes you think about your own belief system. The beauty of this story is in how it is possible to merge two beautiful and very different cultures together, but also that there are certain beliefs that transcend both family and relationships. The author does a wonderful job at describing the subtle details of international marriages. It also helped me discover a lot about both Islam and Christianity. This book will challenge your beliefs about love, happiness, family, religion, and much more. This was the first time that I read a book of this genre and it did not disappoint. I highly recommend that you give this book a try.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. An Absorbing Story By Terry W. Sprouse “Whispers from the East” is an absorbing story of the trials and tribulations of marriage between differing religions. Ammi, an Islamic mother who has migrated to Pakistan after the partition of India in 1947, must deal with the stress of her two sons moving to America and becoming immersed in a culture completely different from her own. The author gives us a fly-on-the-wall insight into how the blending of two cultures results in terrible rifts in families, as well as opportunities for personal growth and compassionate understanding. The author takes us into a world that may seem unfamiliar to us and populated by people with antiquated social customs, but it leaves us with a broader understanding and an empathy for a family struggling to overcome cultural barriers.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Utterly fascinating!!!!! By Sara-Jane Bennetts We follow Ammi as she tries to come to terms with two of her sons decisions to marry American girls as well as the lives of Carolyn and Ivy her daughter-in-laws. The religious and cultural themes are well woven in a fascinating and intriguing story.Figuring out who was who in the zoo was challenging for me at first but I soon found myself so enthralled with this story that I forgot I was reading a fiction novel.I have always been fascinated with religions and Amie Ali gets right to the heart of inter-cultural/ inter-religious relationships in a way that has you empathise with each and every character whilst telling a compelling story. This was an enthralling read which I couldn't put down. Please, oh please tell me there is a book 2.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY! By Amazon Customer This ridiculously short essay is a total waste of time and effort! It reads like a top ten list, with every item bulleted, and offers no information. Literally, it states you can make money selling eggs, or extra veggies from your garden. That's it, with a bullet mark before the sentence. Or if you have a acre of land you should buy a cow. Nothing useful at all here, author should be ashamed to call this a book, much less publishing it and selling it for money. Finding selections such as this is infuriating, as the title is so misleading, and the work so lazy. Would give a negative star rating if able.

A stirring family story of healing after loss. As November chill settles on the town of Oldham, CT, the world has shifted under the feet of Corrina and her teenaged stepson Ryan. Contending with tradition when nothing is the way it used to be is a challenge for the steadiest of relationships – and no one would ever define Corrina and Ryan’s relationship that way. But tradition is still staring them in the face, and they’re going to have to deal with it whether they want to or not. On a day when Ryan is too vulnerable to fight, he agrees to spend some time with his stepmother. Will it be the first stage in their recovery, or a final passage together before they go their separate ways forever? In the first novelette about the Golds – who we first met in the national bestseller LEAVES – Lou Aronica further explores the nuances, complexities, and unique comforts of family and shows that “nothing will be the same” has a multitude of connotations. PREVIOUSLY PUBLISHED AS MICHAEL BARON.

Catch-up Time With some of the Golds By Gigi Ann Having read Michael's book "Leaves" this book is a short story centering around Corrina and her teenaged stepson Ryan. As November chill settles on the town of Oldham, CT, the world has shifted under the feet of Corrina and Ryan. Contending with life when nothing is the way it used to be is a challenge for the steadiest of relationships and no one would ever define Corrina and Ryan’s relationship as steady. But everyday life is still staring them in the face, and they’re going to have to deal with it whether they want to or not. They are both trying to recover from the death of their husband and father. It is a stressful time for them both. Corrina trys to reach Ryan, but he refuses to spend much time communicating with her.On a day when Ryan isn't feeling well, he agrees to spend some time with his stepmother Corrina. Will it be the first stage in their recovery, or a final passage together before they go their separate ways forever? It had an abrupt kind of an ending, but with another novel in the series coming out sometime later, we will be hearing more about them and how their relationship unfolds, at least I hope so.This is the first of four novelettes about the Golds, who we first met in "Leaves". In this story he further explored the nuances, complexities, and unique comforts of family and shows that nothing will ever be the same. This novelette is part of my Kindle library and I enjoyed it enough to award it 3 gold stars. It was nice visiting two of the Gold family again.

As the first book in the Trilogy, "The Trumpet Never Rests", your spirit will exult, smile, and soar with the lyrical visionary saga "Jubilee of Jubilees" that unveils a hidden tapestry of interwoven events over past centuries. Years of Jubilee, the infrequent sabbatical year in the Judeo-Christian tradition, supply the framework to reveal the hidden beauty of special lives. With both heart-wrenching poignancy and humor, Russo's unique and strong voice journeys the reader with Francis of Assisi to Rome on pilgrimage the early 13th century for the beginnings of a radical new way of life. Russo subsequently engages us through the centruries of Jubilee to see the magnificence of the tapestry's pattern through vignettes in France, Italy, Portugal, Poland, and Israel; culminating in an unexpected event during the Great Jubilee Year of 2000 in Rome. Combining history and the deepest yearnings of hope, "Jubilee of Jubilees" is a spring in the wilderness and required reading for anyone that wants to understand why Pope Francis will open the door to a new Year of Jubilee on December 8th of 2015. "Jubilee of Jubilees" is essential reading for armchair pilgrims unable to travel for physical or economic reasons.
