When U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agent Peyton Cote is called to a mysterious burned-out cabin, she has no idea it will lead her to reconnect with Dr. Sherry Duvall. Their re-acquaintance, however, comes under difficult circumstances―Sherry's brother is accused of murder, and her father and mother have just died in a murder-suicide. On the home front, single-mom Peyton is waging a different battle―helping son Tommy fight his learning disability. Amidst all this, a man is lurking who has only revenge on his mind, the kind of revenge that could cripple the nation and leave even those close to him as nothing more than fallen sparrows.

KeeleyI love this series! FALLEN SPARROW is the second entry in the Peyton Cote mystery series, so hopefully will be followed by many more. Peyton is a U.S. Border Agent, and a single parent. After the obligatory seven years working the southern border with Mexico, she and son Tommy returned to her native Aroostook County, Maine, bordering Canada. While coping with her son's increasing difficulty at school, apparently including being bullied, Peyton investigates an abandoned cabin fire, and witnesses a mmurder-suicide of the parents of her childhood best friend. As is usual for Peyton Cote, when it rains it pours, so troubles from multiple directions abound.I reviewed a digital ARC provided by the author via NetGalkey, for review purpose, without remuneration.

Peyton Cote - a Strong Replacement for Max Tyger Adventures By Martha J Pritchard Fallen Sparrow and Bitter Crossing are amazing stories with a strong female character who would not be uncomfortable meeting up with Tess Garritsen's Rizzoli and Isles characters. Peyton Cote is much more than a woman. She's a law enforcement ideal who is not afraid to get her hands dirty in her quest to keep order on the often under appreciated boarder of Canada and Maine. Respected by her fellow boarder patrol officers, state police, and local sheriff's officers, she manages to balance the role of single mother and professional cop with the help of her own devoted mother and good friends.Nothing gruesome about these reads. They are well crafted and believable. Sorry to lose Max Tyger in This One Day, but I look forward to many more Peyton Cote novels.

It was a great read - similar to Harlen Coben with a touch of Lisa Gardner. Having lived in Maine off and on, I really enjoyed the descriptions of Aroostook Counties. Only drawback and it's minor is that there are a lot of characters, and a few have similar names so it gets a little tricky keeping track.
