About the Author
Books were Danny Kuhn’s constant companions while he was growing up on a small farm in West Virginia. He especially loved Dickens and Doyle, feeling they pulled the reader in to be part of their stories. After receiving degrees from Marshall and West Virginia Universities, Danny lived in the Caribbean for a brief time before beginning his career as a high school science teacher. Writing and corporate training may constitute a “third career” for Danny, but he has been known as a teller of tales since he was a child. The past is his passion, and he writes history columns for local magazines.

Some of my favorite quotes that are still applicable to today were By William Mark Deskins I originally bought the Kindle edition of book a while back, I re-purchased the hard cover edition when it came out. The fact that I would re-purchase it tells you that I found it quite enjoyable! While it is a work of fiction, it was full of historical facts intertwined with the development of science and technology with a touch of humanity. The characters were intriguing and believable. Imagining some of the encounters during a day gone by was entertaining and thought provoking.Some of my favorite quotes that are still applicable to today were:"I vowed to be open to seeing small things in people that others did not see, little sparks of promise that I could help fan into flames that might do some good in the world.""I fully believe that each has a talent, but it can never be called upon if hunger and ignorance covers it with a bushel.""And hysteria, it seems, spreads fastest among the religious, readily filling the gaps left by the mysteries of faith. ""As oft happens, a loud man with hatred and hidden motives can turn the tide of opinion among the weaker minds, finding the tiny sparks of fear and prejudice present in the hearts of all men, and fanning them into a raging fire. ""The only thing that outlives us, as our legacy, is the good we do for others."Everyone should buy this book and read it. It is a true bargain.

Bless his heart; it's Fezziwig alive again!" - A Christmas Carol, Charles Dickens By Jim Schmidt I'll be honest - I was going to give this just 3, may 3 1/2 stars, but the last few pages of the book pushed me to 4, as described below. The cons - as a *novel*, it's a bit thin...episodic; no true story plot; Fezziwig is a good and likeable man, but perhaps written as too good; the inclusion of historical characters was a bit contrived, but done here better than elsewhere...the pros: in its mission as an "autobiography," it is terrific - Kuhn's imagined life of Fezziwig from young adult to old man is written beautifully, with good humor, adventures, a good sense of time and place - I really enjoyed the science angle - and given the circles Fezziwig ran in, the inclusion of historical and famous men and women is believable, but perhaps a wee bit overdone in terms of numbers. The inclusion of Scrooge as an apprentice to Fezziwig was excellent. It's an above-average read, to be sure...but those last few pages, in the Afterword, were so well written, clever, and imagined, it pushed me to a 4. As Scrooge exclaims in A Christmas Carol - "Bless his heart; it's Fezziwig alive again!" - we have that favor from the author. Recommended.

I approached reading this book with some trepidation as I am not a big fan of the genre. I am basically a science fiction fan and historical fiction is a far cry from that. With that said, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story was captivating and held my attention, from beginning to end. I was afraid that this book would be written in the Dickensian style and I was not looking forward to slogging through the verbose and sometimes incomprehensible English of that time period. Not so, I fell into the dialog and found it to be well written and flowing from one character to the next.For a story about a minimal character, in a classic piece of literature, this was a gem of a read. I truly connected to Fezziwig, and was concerned about his adventures and grew to like him more and more. From past experience, I know that you have to read through multitudes of poorly written, poorly thought out and poorly executed books by independent authors, before you find a decent book and even more of the decent books until you find a truly good one. This one is one of those. It is a truly good book, a great read and a well thought out and well presented story that I enjoyed tremendously.I cannot wait to read more from this author and I eagerly await his next book. Well done!
