By Mle Heike Brunner Denn wer kennt sie nicht, die Paare, die sich nichts sehnlicher wünschen als ein Kind, und doch keins bekommen können? „Stadt und Gespenster“ erzählt eindringlich, sensibel und ungeachtet aller Tragik des Themas mit der nötigen Portion Humor, welcher organisatorische und emotionale Kraftakt Paare erwartet, die sich wie Romanheldin Julia und ihr Mann diesem Schicksal nicht einfach so ergeben wollen. Oft habe ich mich beim Lesen so erschöpft gefühlt, als hätte ich selbst neben einer anspruchsvollen Arbeit täglich mit unsensiblen Ärzten und bürokratischen oder gar tyrannischen Sozialarbeiterinnen zu tun. Ganz nebenbei zeichnet der Roman ein facettenreiches Bild von Paris in Zeiten der Finanzkrise, mit seinen Bewohnern, die im Großstadtdschungel um ihr Glück kämpfen, um Erfolg, Liebe, oder einfach nur das berufliche oder physische Überleben. Manchmal war die Vielzahl der Handlungsstränge undurchsichtig und verwirrend - wie das Leben in der Metropole eben. Das Buch ist von der ersten bis zur letzten Seite packend geschrieben. Und der Befreiungsschlag, der Julia am Ende mit ihrer unkonventionellen Flucht in eine fremde Welt gelingt, hatte für mich etwas unglaublich Belebendes.

By John Drake This is the definitive watershed work that brought Buddhism to the West and explains it in a manner that's very easy for Westerners to understand. It is a wonderful book that uses a question and answer structure like the Catholic Catechism to enlighten the reader on the Buddhist faith. It covers every aspect of Buddhism and there's much to learn from it whether you are a beginner or a master or from the East or the West. I strongly recommend this book. I got so much out of it. This book answers a lot of very important questions, including ones that I have had for some time. It's been a real blessing to me.

I firmly believe I was led to this book, which is an amazing and rare find.This is the perfect book on Buddhism for the Western mind. Olcott explains the tenets in very clear language and lays it out in a highly organized fashion that makes it very easy for a Westerner to understand. It is the ultimate FAQ on Buddhism and also an amazing bridge between East and West. It is the perfect book for Westerners interested in Buddhism, and it's most enlightening for Easterners as well. It is really a book that everyone can enjoy. It's a best of the East and West.This is a book that I intend to recommend to all my friends, and I will have to pick up more books on Buddhism now that I've found so many vital truths in this one. I highly recommend this book if you are serious in any way about this subject. Though it was written by an expert and enlightening for those who are very knowledgeable, it's also the perfect book for beginners.

At first the words "learn in a few hours" in the cover page, didn't convence me at the first time but after I purchase this book I noticed that this can be true. First you'll learn about the basics, what kind of hooks and materials do you need in order to make different methods. later you are going to start to learn about the proper grip of the hooks and then you are going to start a slip tie. Later, in the following chapters you will learn different stitches and you'll learn how to make projects like a poncho and a tranquil wrap that will be the first steps in your limitless world of crochet.I strongly recommend this book for all the people interested in crochet knitting and need a easy to understand guide to do it.

I always wanted to learn crocheting but this book was very helpful and also taught me easy crochet designs and patterns. I am not an professional but with this book I can surely become an expert in crocheting. The information and techniques are easy to understand and very interesting and gets you hooked up till the end. This book is a quick guide for learning crochet. This book is short but very comprehensive. This book also describes all the patterns with easy and beautiful pictures. Overall, I enjoyed this book very much. I recommend this book any person who wants to learn crochet swiftly.

The instructions are concise and the diagrams are clear and self-explanatory. One would do well, to have a crochet hook and yarn on hand to practice as one goes along. This is a very helpful book indeed.
