Bernadette and Nancy are on holiday in Northern Ireland in 1982 when they discover that their family are involved with the IRA. There are many places that they are forbidden to go by their Aunt Agatha and Uncle Donn and Agatha, and things they are forbidden to talk about by their mother. So many things to be forbidden; they pretty much ignore all of them. Only Tommy really frightens them. Things are manageable until one day their absent uncle, Ryan, reappears to the horror of his siblings. Tommy arrives to deal with the situation and, soon after, Bernie sees Ryan's body on the kitchen floor, wrapped in a blanket.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. the Insect Rosary By moira escobedo Have you ever come across a book where you are plunged into the story from the onset, where you are taken on a journey and cannot put the book down? This is how I began reading "The Insect Rosary"!The journey which you are invited to witness is one of breathtaking description and witty humor. The book leads you hand in hand to a young girls childhood summers with her older sister and unusual family. I felt as though it was me on the landing listening to conversations not allowed for young children , and holding my own breath as they discover your still listening! The narrative gently takes you back to the 1980's as the characters are experiencing some sinister on goings. The chapters alternate with childhood and the present day which I felt was refreshing and also created more expectation as the story unfolded. The location for such a gripping story is Ireland with all of its beauty and charm. The characters also made you feel as though you have probably met them ,sharp description and mannerisms they almost walk out of the page. I will not spoil the ending for you! you will have to read it yourselves, but I can say that as the sisters try to reconnect with the past secrets are discovered. Can't wait for the next book . An excellent first book enjoy!
