About the Author Above all I want to thank God for blessing me to be a poet. The beauty of a gift is that it emerges from within you. As a child my mother and I were beaten by my stepfather in Chicago, Illinois. The abuse continued until I was old enough to stand up to him. I’ve been writing poetry since I was a child. During my teenage years I began sharing my poetry with my friends. My poetry helped me win the hearts of women. In my twenties I wrote about issues that plagued mankind; prejudice, black on black crime and other forms of ignorance. In the mid 80s I joined KDIA AM radio. I called in weekly to The Hank Thompson Jr. Broadcast and shared my poetry. When he left, Ron B. Hart allowed me to do my poetry during his broadcast. After he left, I shared my poetry on The Wes Hardin Broadcast. These KDIA DJs were the first to give me the opportunity to share my gift with the public. In the late 80s on Channel 2 and TV 20 I performed many of my poems in free speech messages. 1991 I was granted the privilege of being a part of Street Soldiers thanks to Kevin Nash who I remember speaking with on a few occasions while he was with KDIA. Now he was the host of Street Soldiers on KMEL. The members of Street Soldiers were very impressed by my poetry. Street Soldiers was established by the Omega Boys’ Club. They were actively involved in the community helping youth and young adults. I traveled with the Omega Boys’ Club to Detroit and Los Angeles. I opened and closed the second and third Knowledge Conferences in San Francisco. On September 2, 1995 I was given a proclamation from then mayor Frank Jordan for my work with Street Soldiers and other nonprofit organizations. When I joined Street Soldiers in 1991 I was given the name Allen The Poet. To this day that is a name that I embrace with pride.

This poem depicts black women to be strong beautiful creatures that they are, and you can feel the love Alan has for his mom, and All sistahs. Keep doing your thang brother.Imani G.
