A story of mystery, greed and hope, set in the late eighties and early nineties. Liz, an advertising manager in an upmarket magazine and her pharmaceutical chemist husband, Jack Lord, decide to change their lifestyle and buy an inn in the lovely village of Buddleigh, part of the beautiful Saigh Valley. Under their management, the business booms and their bankers are keen to fund the expansion deemed necessary to accommodate the growing trade. In fact the bank managers almost insist that the Lords borrow more, inviting them on a trip aboard the yacht, ‘Foxtrot Oscar’, in an attempt to cement the deal. Initially, it looks as if the enterprise has paid off but boom was soon followed by bust. As the recession and high interest rates of the early nineties took its toll, the bank repossessed the property, leaving the penniless Lords to move into Council housing. As Liz Lord finds a job in teaching, her husband turns to writing and starts to write a novel. The ‘Green Man’ had been in the hands of the same family for countless generations over several centuries and unknown to the Lords, harboured dark secrets from the past. Fate seems to be playing a strange hand when after some mysterious happenings, the inn is burned down and an opportunity arises for the Lords to gain their revenge on the greedy bank and its unscrupulous managers. From the start, Liz Lord seemed to have an affinity for the inn that she couldn’t explain. First came the ‘revelations’ as her husband called them and later, as her behaviour became more bizarre, events pointed to her own history being a lie. At times, comic, at other times tragic, the tale of the ‘Green Man’ is a story of mystery and intrigue as Liz discovers who she really is and a four hundred year old injustice is finally put right.

About the Author A graduate of the Royal School of Mines, I worked for the Ministry of Defence for six years before taking my first pub, ‘The Plough’, at Pyrton, near Oxford. I spent more than twenty-seven years in pubs and a hotel until 2000, when I retired to develop a new game of mini golf. In 2007, following a trip to Thailand to visit my granddaughter, I had an idea for a story. Three months later it was written and I had the writing ‘bug’. Since then I have written a further three novels; one a sequel to the first, ‘Apsaras’ and two others in a series that draws on my experiences in the hospitality trade.

The intrigue, and greed of modern day life was well portrayed through very interesting characters. The twists and turns of the Fleming family and the connections to their past held the book together well.I shall be reading more of Kevill's books.
