About the Author Ervin R. Stutzman was born into an Amish home in Kalona, Iowa, and spent most of his childhood in Hutchinson, Kansas. He is author of Jacob s Choice; Tobias of the Amish; and Emma, A Widow Among the Amish. Stutzman serves as executive director for Mennonite Church USA.

At the beginning there was danger all over and this family found it in the form of Indians. Very sad start to the story, but the book does not dwell here; we are focused on the Indians and become absorbed in their problems and culture.A teen when he is captured, Joseph watched as part of his family was murdered and scalped, unthinkable. Now he seems to accept his fate and lives like an Indian, and becomes a Warrior, a bit like the Stockholm syndrome? While reading this book I kept hoping he would be rescued, and yet here is a mother looking to replace a lost son, and is gifted with another.The ending was abrupt, and as with the first book you are left hanging waiting for the next. Learn about Indian life, and a young man with his faith based on the bible. Then I found myself rooting for his new mother and family. Can’t wait to read the next book.I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Herald Press, and was not required to give a positive review.

It was very educational for me as well as enjoyable, the amount of historical information that was provided in the story.
