By Pat Fenner What I love most about this book is that it goes far beyond a “how to” or even a “why to”. Kim is no cold-hearted purger. As a matter of fact, the section on organizing for the elderly touched me deeply, having helped my own parents move out of the home they were in for over 40 years a while back. She presents the issue from both perspectives: the elderly parent and the adult child, and gently encourages the reader to move forward with kid gloves.The only (minor) complaint I would voice is that, in some sections (of the review copy I read), Ms Pittman points us to her website for pictures of some of the suggestions she describes. It would be great if links were provided.Organizing is more than just keeping track of our stuff. It’s learning how to live within our means, within the spaces we have, and harmoniously with each other. It’s about being good stewards with our possessions, learning to be content, and teaching our children values about work, money management, time management and priorities.At the end of the day, the decisions about what closet system to use, or how to store your Christmas décor are only marginally important. We need to remember the bigger picture: the people in our lives, and how our actions affect and influence them.Kim’s book “Organize 4 U” helps us to do both.

I am that person who has somehow collected all of the items left behind by deceased loved ones, or relatives who have moved away. Then a few years back when my daughters left for college and I retired, I found plundering through local thrift stores great therapy for the empty nest syndrome. Oh the wonderful crafts I envisioned myself creating and selling. Yet, those ideas never quite came to fruition.What's left now is a house full of memories and accumulated treasures. As I began reading Kim's book, I wondered, how in the world had she crawl into my head to know all of the excuses I have had over time for not harnessing my clutter. Kim's model to Purge,Group and Place especially beginning as 5 minute Challengesas I begin the arduous task of organizing my home seems do-able. While I recognize it will take time to get everything tidy,following the ideas offered by Kim in Organize 4 U give me aframework for how to start, what to do, and how to reach my goals.
0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An Inspiration for Action By MJ Salter Upon finishing my read of this practical approach to organizing, I was ready to purge every room in my home. Then remembering the writer's instructions, I limited my "purge" to one project with plans to tackle the remaining areas. In spite of her reservation about being able to categorize her thoughts as well as she organizes "stuff", Kim Pittman ably presented those thoughts in formulating organizational ideas and skills that will work from the bathroom to the kitchen. Uniquely, she has taken a typically boring subject and crafted her words in a way to both encourage and challenge the reader to action. An additional plus is that the book is designed to either be read from cover to cover or as a reference guide to the areas addressing the specific needs of the reader. Being older and living alone, I have accumulated too much clutter, and ORGANIZE 4U has inspired me to do something about it now to avoid my children having to deal with it later. Thank you, Kim, for sharing your organizational acumen.
