At its best, the collection reads like a memoir By Steve Karas Come Tomorrow You’ll Regret Today is a quietly powerful collection of stories, drifting through the neighborhoods and homes of blue-collar America, baring the struggles and doubts of its Millennial Generation. At its best, the collection reads like a memoir. “Wal-Mart College” tells the story of a high school dropout aspiring to turn his life around, starting by getting into a good college. Trotti realistically captures the light bulb moment of late adolescence/early adulthood, regret over wasted youth, and the fears that can haunt parents and tear apart marriages. Of the protagonist quitting pot and video games, Trotti writes, “I felt that if I somehow gave up my most cherished possessions and activities, then I would deserve something good to happen to me. It was my feeble attempt at undoing years of underachieving.” In “Unlaced and Fitted,” another standout for me, a young man finds out via Facebook that an old friend has died. Trotti flashes the light on how social media has changed the way we grieve. He also delves into the guilt many of us have felt for not spending more time with those who’ve passed while they were still alive. He writes, “The hyper-cycle of information, the ever-changing nature of Facebook in general, was at direct odds with the attempt to capture and freeze this life, this moment of loss.” I thought “Requiem” was a particularly beautiful and meditative piece, maybe my favorite, about the death of a grandparent, longing for the past, and “life’s never-ending forward movement.” Come Tomorrow You’ll Regret Today isn’t a flashy collection that will knock you over the head, but with patience it will certainly reward you.

It's hard for me to get into the stories or connect with the characters, in such a short time. I'm sure you're asking why I bothered to enter a contest to win a book full of short stories. Well I did it because it was intriguing and I had just read another book of short stories by another author that I actually enjoyed, so I decided why the hell not!?!So Come Tomorrow You'll Regret Today is exactly how you would think it would be. Full of regrets, despair, unsettling feelings of alienations, and anxiety ridden paranoia. I though I might be uncomfortable in most cases, but there was only instance where I was visibly flinching. Without giving too much of a spoiler...i'll just say that it involved a dog, two boys, and the makings of a serial killer (*cringe*).This book was mostly filled with lots of anxiety and paranoia centered in age where we are regrettably linked to our internet personas and more and more detached from actual society. Are we breeding introverts? Is the question I ask myself.I gave this book 4 stars simply for the fact that it is a collection of short stories, so other than a few cringe worthy moments, a question I am unable to answer, and every scenario one I can't relate to, there wasn't much to catch my attention and wow me. Still, not a bad read if you're looking to kill some time.

Yeah, but it's not written in that typical, know-it-all, journalist way. It's a person trying to see his life, which is what we are all trying to do. I picked up this book at book event in Brooklyn over the Summer of 2015. I had the privilege of meeting the author and I am not sorry to have paid hard cash for the book.
