Jeffreys' short short stories are like zen koans -- simultaneously intriguing and baffling. A few of the stories, like "The Recording" and "A Very Long Number Written Too Neatly", seem to end almost mid-sentence. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. By far my favorite of his stories is "What the Radio Said", about an autistic boy and his pet potbellied pig looking for water in the aftermath of a nuclear war, and also I really liked "The Peter Brady", which is set tens of thousands of years after humans have become extinct. "The Peter Brady" would be a cool movie. Overall, the stories in this collection are hit and miss, though I'd recommend the book even for these two stories alone.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Nice collection of tales! By mint tea This book is a collection of short stories that are pretty interesting. If you only have a couple of minutes at a time to read, you can get through at least one of the stories featured in the book. They mostly revolve around events with an apocalypse theme and each one is different and stands on its own. I especially liked the one about the videotape and the one with the old television stars, because they both reminded me of famous movies. If you like to read anthologies with a wasteland theme, this book will be right up your alley. I found myself reading the whole book at once, but you could spread it out more if you wanted to. The author does a great job of getting the message across in each of the tales, which are all written in a clear and concise manner that is quite enjoyable.

An Interesting Collection of Short Stories By Melissa Robinson Apocalypse Beach Party: Stories by Warrington Jeffreys is an interesting ensemble of stories. I was able to read it in one sitting. I thought this would be an interesting read, and it was. It is a collection of very short stories that deal with the apocalypse in some form or fashion. I enjoyed that the stories were relatively quick to read. However, it seems a couple of the stories ended too quickly like almost in mid thought. But there were a couple of stories enjoyed very much. My two favorite stories were The Peter Brady Story and The River Phoenix Fan Club. If you want a quick read, and something a little out of the ordinary. I would recommend this collection of short stories.
