In the dusty ruins of once verdant Earth, humanity is forced to live in bio-domes that protect them from the harsh environment of the Burn Zone. About the Author The question of how I became a writer, or more importantly, what brought me to such an activity, comes up frequently. I've always said that I write because I don't know what else to do, but that's only part of the truth. My love of words was forged early. I was a caboose child, my next sibling is 13 years older and this gave me a head start on my vocabulary. Imagine being surrounded by grown-ups all the time; you'd pick up a thing or two! I was often described as "precocious", which I think meant that I talked too much. It wasn't long before my siblings had lives of their own and I was a "lonely only". My mom worked, so I spent a lot of time on my own. This is where my imagination was developed. I could easily slip in to a world of my own making, only limited by what I could dream up. I haven't lost that skill and that's what feeds my writing. (It was that or become an actress; neither being what you might consider a "secure" occupation!) I find I get so caught up in the lives of my characters that they become real to me - an occupational hazard, I'm sure. So the obsession with them and the outcome of the story brings me to this place, explaining the "why" to you. I can't imagine not writing, I'd as soon stop breathing. My greatest wish is that anyone who chooses to read my work enjoys it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
