Carol's second novel is such a fun ride - a little political intrigue, a little romance, and always Carol's well articulated social conscience, deftly weaving her love for and defense of animals into the fabric of the tale. She keeps the story moving but takes time to develop the dimensions of each character so you're fully invested in the outcome. Carol's insight into human nature is demonstrated as she blurs the lines between good guys and bad guys, revealing the unpredictability of human nature and making the reader's journey all the more interesting. Can't wait for the next book from this exciting new writer!

The characters are well formed and totally believable. The unlikely relationships that are formed ring true and I found myself rooting for certain characters to get together. The actual scheme is intriguing and I couldn't wait to read how it played out. By the end of the book, I wasn't quite ready for it to be over. I still want to find out what happens to some of the people and see how their lives evolve.
