Williams This is Watt Gibson's personal biography and a fascinationg narrative of life i northwest Missouri and the westward route to the gold fields, Civil War days and all the drama that extended from the 1850s to the 1890s. Hard to believe on young guy did all that's in the book but it's a good story and the Buchanan County portions are close to home - in fact i was raised on land originally in the Gibson family east of St. Joseph and the stories of Gibsons time in Missouri centered on the township where my grandfather was raised so many family names and place names resonate. Particularly interesting the accounts or drifting into and out of Civil War battles - it was not all in or all out - much more fluid month to month. Not many will read or encounter this small volume but those who do will enjoy it. i read it to my mom in her final year of life - she was 107 and was a contemporary of the author althogh as a small child an old man are contempories. She says she recalls seeing stacks of his unsold red book in the home of a relative in her youth. .

It's simply fascinating to see the hardships faced in that time and how he was still able to prosper. I'm very thankful that he took the time to write down his experiences.
